Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on Twitter saying that this visit will prove to be an important milestone in the India-Austria partnership. Diplomatic relations have existed for 75 years
This foreign trip of Prime Minister Modi is taking place on a special occasion on 9-10 July, when 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries are about to be completed. Diplomatic relations between the two countries began in the year 1949. First Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited Austria for the first time in the year 1955.
After this, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi went on her first visit to Austria in the year 1971. Then in 1983 she went on her second visit to Austria.
Diplomatic visits continued from time to time between the two countries
Friendly relations between the two countries have been maintained continuously for the last 75 years. In 1980, Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky visited India. In 1984, the then Chancellor of Austria Fred Sinowatz also visited India.

President K R Narayanan visited Austria in 1999 and President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil in 2011.
