An important period according to Hindu tradition, Chaturmas, is about to begin. According to mythology, it is said that from this day Lord Shri Hari Vishnu sleeps in Kshirsagar and then he is raised after about four months when the Sun goes into Libra. That day is called Devuthani Ekadashi. The gap in between is called Chaturmas. The day when Shri Hari sleeps is known as Devshayani Ekadashi.

In mythological texts, this Ekadashi is also known as Ekadashi of good fortune. According to Padma Purana, fasting on this day liberates one from all sins committed knowingly or unknowingly.
Worshiping on this day with full heart and discipline leads to salvation for women. According to Brahmavaivarta Purana, fasting on Devshayani Ekadashi fulfils all wishes.
As per scriptures, there is no mandate for 16 rites in Chaturmas. Pujas, rituals, home or office repairs, Griha Pravesh, automobile purchase and jewellery purchase can be performed during this period.

As per Hindu Panchang, this year Chaturmas begins on Wednesday, July 17. Chaturmas lasts for four months. Then on Tuesday, November 12, Chaturmas concludes when Lord Vishnu comes out of Yog Nidra on Devuthani Ekadashi.
